Reiki

At the times in life when you feel unbalanced, unwell, stuck or in need of healing, there is a simple solution. It’s called Reiki, pronounced “ray-key”.

Reiki doesn’t require any work on your part. You just rest and decompress for 45 minutes while a reiki practitioner works to help clear blockages and realign your energy. It’s like getting a massage or a facial, only the target area is your own life force energy instead of muscle or skin.

During a reiki session, a trained practitioner channels the unlimited life force energy from the universe into your body. This is intelligent energy and once it enters your body, it knows exactly where it is needed.

“Reiki” means “Universal Life Force Energy”. If you practice yoga, you’ve heard life force energy referred to as “prana”. If you’ve practiced Chinese modalities such as Qigong, it is referred to as Chi. All living things, including you, your pets and your plants, have a life force energy. Your life force lives inside your body which is simply the physical shell that contains your energy.

Chakra is a Sanskrit word that means “Wheel of Light”. The energetic life force in your body is organized into 7 main chakras that are closely associated with your endocrine system.

We’ve all felt stressed, sick, sad, angry, unhappy or just sluggish. Not quite our whole self. These feelings are symptoms notifying you that one or more of your chakras are out of alignment.

Reiki is not a religion and does not conflict with any religious teaching. While the concepts are spiritual in nature, there is no dogma. People of all religions have practiced reiki and many describe it as something that enhances their relationship to their higher power.

During a reiki session, you will lie down on a massage table and get comfortable. You’ll have a blanket and an eye pillow, similar to when you receive a facial but you will remain fully dressed. The lights will be dimmed and soothing spa music will be playing. All you have to do is relax and be open to receiving the healing benefits.

As a Reiki Practitioner, I will be hovering my hands about 4 to 5 inches above your body, beginning at the crown of your head and working my way down to your feet. You’ll flip over at that point and we’ll repeat the process on the other side.

You will feel more and more relaxed as the session progresses. Some people feel different sensations in parts of their body, usually lasting just a few moments. You may feel warmth/coolness, tingling, prickling or pulsating sensations or maybe even a tickle that feels like a spark of electricity.

One of the more joyous affects of receiving reiki energy is that you may enjoy an emotional release. Crying is quite common and typically very therapeutic. Once the session is over, you may feel lighter or like you’ve released a burden. To me, it feels like I’m about 5 years younger than I was when I started.
