The Old Man and the Sea

Rating: 5 out of 5.

You may have read this in high school. Because it’s a classic (thus our cover book for Classics on Frittata’s Book page). Bet you hated it then like I did. Soooo slow.

Try re-reading it now friends. A simple story of a man and a fish. The essence of patience, commitment. Have a drink nearby though, because you’ll be thirsty after spending days on end in that hot sun.

Proof that you don’t need fancy plots or dozens of characters to make good literature.

Update: Recently found out that this is available in audiobook on Audible and is narrated by Donald Sutherland! He’s perfect for this and I may have liked it even better having him read it to me.

My favorite quote from Hemingway’s The Old Man and the Sea. This board hangs over the fresh catch selection at one of the best seafood restaurants I’ve ever been to – El Farallon in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. See my Mexico travel page by clicking this image.
